사전에 의하면 커룹(cherub)은 복수형이 두 가지인데 지품(智品)천사들을 의미하는 케루빔(cherubim)과 귀여운 아기들을 의미하는 커룹스(cherubs)가 있습니다. 에젤키엘서 등에서 말하는 커룹들에 해당하는 용어가 케루빔이라 생각됩니다. 치품(熾品)천사를 의미하는 세랖(seraph)도 복수형이 세라핌(seraphim)과 세랖스(seraphs)가 있습니다. 다음은 kayoo36님이 올리신 케루빔에 대한 번역입니다.

 

  

These angels are second only to the seraphim, and
their name signifies "fullness of knowledge".
Characterized by a deep insight into God's secrets,
the cherubim truly possess the fullness of the divine
science of heaven.

They are often sent to earth with the greatest of tasks
like the expulsion of Man from the Garden of Eden and
the Annunciation of Christ. They also enlighten the
lesser choirs of angels and are to them, the Voice of
Divine Wisdom. 

Cherubim are described as the charioteers of God,
steering the Ophanim/Thrones, the third order of
Angels depicted as wheels. And contrary to the
paintings on greeting cards and new age book covers
of fat, winged baby cherubs, the cherubim are
described as sphinx-like creatures in Assyrian lore, or
the angels gracing the Ark of the Covenant and
Solomon's temple in the Bible.

케루빔은 바퀴로 묘사되는 세 번째 서열의 좌품천사 트론즈를 지휘하는,

하느님의 마부들로 묘사된다. 통통하고 날개 달린 어린 아기들(cherubs) 그림의 신년카드나 생일 책 표지와는 대조적으로, 케루빔은 아시리아 전설에서는 스핑크스 같은 동물로 묘사되며, 성경에서는 계약의 궤와 솔로몬 성전을 아름답게 꾸미는 천사들로 묘사된다.
